The Block Island Conservancy seeks to hire two seasonal employees for the summer 2021 season. Positions are COVID-permitting and housing is not provided.

Education Program Intern

The Education Program Intern will fill a part-time, short-term position for the summer 2021 season. The Education Program Intern will be responsible for staffing the Block Island Conservancy’s education van, which will be stationed at various trailheads and other popular outdoor recreation areas around the island on a regular schedule. The Education Program Intern will provide site-specific information to visitors, as well as general information about notable nature, conservation history and importance to Block Island, and work to advance the Block Island Conservancy’s mission.

 

Start and end date and expected hours:

  • Expected start date: Monday, June 21, 2021
  • Expected end date: Saturday, August 21, 2021
  • Weekly hours: 30 hours

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience interacting with the public
  • Experience working independently
  • Driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • English fluency

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or working towards a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences and/or education
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Multi-lingual fluency
  • Familiarity with Block Island

Compost Program Intern

The Compost Program Intern will fill a part-time, short-term position for the summer 2021 season. The Compost Program Intern will be responsible for setting up compost collection at the Farmer’s Markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and helping to maintain the compost piles. The assistant will provide education while at the Farmer’s Markets about composting, as well as connect with members of the public about conservation and the Block Island Conservancy’s mission.

 

Start and end date and expected hours:

  • Expected start date: Monday, June 21, 2021
  • Expected end date: Saturday, August 21, 2021
  • Weekly hours: 12 hours

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Experience interacting with the public
  • Experience working independently
  • English fluency
